Smith's Dock Company War Memorial, West End Park, North Shields
This war memorial is located off Minton Lane, in West End Park, near Riverside Primary School. The memorial was erected by the Smith's Dock Company in memory of 141 employees who gave their lives in the First World War. It was unveiled on the 24th of July, 1920, by Major General R.A. Montgomery. The memorial was moved a short distance to facilitate the nearby housing development. It is a Grade II listed on the National Heritage Lit for England.
It was one of three identical memorials built for by the Smith’s Dock Company to honour its fallen employees (the other 2 being in Smith’s Dock Park, Middlesbrough and Harton Recreation Park, South Shields).
