Skelwith Bridge
Skelwith Bridge is a settlement in the Lake District, situated by the River Brathey. It is located about 2 miles west of the town of Ambleside and 4 miles north-east of Coniston. The bridge, after which the settlement is named, was until 1974, on the county boundary between (old) Westmorland and Lancashire. Skelwith Bridge Hotel dates back to the 17th century, originally a farmhouse and corn mill, which were extended over the years. Historically, there were slate works in Skelwith Bridge. Today, Skelwith Bridge forms part of Skelwith Civil Parish, in the ceremonial county of Cumbria, and is in the Westmorland and Furness Council area.
