Shrine to St Lioba, Slack Head

On Leighton Beck Lane in Slack Head, there is a small shrine dedicated to St Lioba, built into a stone wall. Lioba (also Leoba) c.710 AD; 782 AD) was an Anglo Saxon Benedictine nun and a recognized saint. A plaque on the shrine is in memory of Dr Donald Watson (1936 - 2011), who lived nearby. the plaque notes that Lioba is the missionary and patron saint of the Saxon church at nearby Beetham.
