Shotley Low Quarter War Memorial

The parish war memorial for Shotley Low Quarter is located in the churchyard of St John's Church at Snods Edge. The memorial can be seen from Burnmill Bank (the B6278 road). The memorial was unveiled on the 15th of April 1922, by Dr Clifton Browne MP and dedicated by Dr Wild, Bishop of Newcastle. It commemorated 8 local servicemen who lost their lives in the First World War. The costs for the memorial were raised by public subscription. A gate in the churchyard wall, leading from the road to the memorial, was donated by Mr and Mrs Mackay. Following the Second World War the names of 7 men who died in that conflict were added to the memorial. Shotley Low Quarter War Memorial is Grade II listed on the National Heritage List for England.
