Rigmaden, Cumbria

Rigmaden is a hamlet in Mansergh Civil Parish in Cumbria, which includes serveral houses and Rigmaden Farm, located to the north-east of Rigmaden Park, about 4 miles north of Kirkby Lonsdale. The former manor and estate of Rigmaden covers a wide geographical area. The manor of Rigmaden originated in the Middle Ages, documented in 1322, when the manor house (on the site of Rigmaden Park) was occupied by Thomas Warde. This was replaced by a new building in c.1678 for Thomas Godsalve, before the current 19th century hall. Rigmaden Bridge was built by the Rigmaden Estate in the 1880s. Rigmaden School, endowed by Christopher Wilson of Rigmaden in 1839, now serves as Mansergh Community Hall.
