    "Chapelry and township in Greystoke parish, Leath ward, Cumberland. Acreage: 5,956 acres [2410 ha]. Small open field (‘townfield’ of 11 acres [4 ha]) enclosed 1842. Threlkeld Common, covering 1,102 acres [446 ha] of fells around Saddleback/Blencathra, remains unenclosed common land. Population: rising from 260 in 1801 to 419 by 1881; then more rapid increase to peak of 614 by 1931; followed by decline to 454 by 2001....."
