Little Theatre, Saltwell View, Gateshead

  • Description

"The Gateshead Independent Labour Party Dramatic Club which became the Progressive Players was formed in 1920, performing in a local hall. The Little Theatre was built on a vacant site opposite the entrance to Saltwell Park in 1943 and opened with “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”. Probably the only theatre to be built in Britain during the war. Dickens' "A Christmas Carol" will play from 7th to 12th December 2009. http://www.littletheatregateshead.com/" Photo by Andrew Curtis, 2009.
