Malvern House, 7 Front Street, Staindrop

  • Description

"The Grade II Listed house of about 1700. An early resident was Attorney General John 'honest Jack' Lee (1733-93), the premises later had a stint as a sweet shop and in the early part of the 21st century it was run as a guest house. It shows the style of John Carr (1723-1807) who clearly wasn't born at time of building if the dating in the listing is correct. The trompe-l'œil windows on the parapet give the illusion of a 4 storey building that completed restoration in 2011 including the addition of a modern kitchen and 3rd floor ceiling."
