WHITTINGHAM STATION

    "....Whittingham was built for the benefit of the local landowner Lord Ravensworth. He was one of the members of the local gentry who had encouraged the N.E.R. to build the line. It was the only station on the line to have an island platform and only one of two stations (the other was Wooler) to have two platform faces. Whittingham was unusually large station with five sidings on the west side of the line...."
