St Bartholomew's Church, Whittingham
-
Description
"The Saxon west tower was partly dismantled in 1840 to be replaced by a "taller and better" Gothic version with overdone pinnacles: the change is stonework is clearly visible. Pevsner calls this "vandalism" but the church is still Grade-I listed: http://www.britishlistedbuildings.co.uk/101041257-church-of-st-bartholomew-whittingham#.WZnOkCaWyAg ."
