Former Hawthorn, Leslie dry dock, Hebburn

  • Description

"Fine building on the left and a church tower in the background add defining features. The grey shed in the background contained workshops and the Newcastle Museum's technology store. The contents are now at Beamish. Ten years after the event I feel able to admit that the gates to the compound could be just lifted off their hinges and replaced afterwards and nobody was the wiser. Oh yes - the grey object filling the foreground is HMS Cavalier and I spent several hours in her machinery spaces (with full permission)." Photo by Chris Allen, 1999.
