    "View northward, on the South Shields, Marsden & Whitburn Colliery Railway. This was Sunday 22/11/53, the last day a passenger service was run on this independent line, which remained open for freight until 1993, when the collieries were all closed. The locomotive hauling the ragged line of coaches is a standard Robert Stephenson & Hawthorn 0-6-oST, No. 7749 of 1952. (See also [[5071659]])." Photo by Walter Dendy, deceased, 1953.
