  • Description

"The Horden Heritage Centre opened its doors in August 2009 showcasing displays of local memorabilia. Our Heritage displays shows a complete history of Horden Colliery, from the origins of the local manor house, Horden Hall, built in the early 17th century, to the creation of one of the biggest coal mines in Europe and then on to the decline of the mine. All are welcome, from schools doing History projects to people far afield who want to trace their history. Our volunteer staff have a wealth of knowledge on Horden and will happily give you a guided tour. You can also visit the Vintage Tea Room for a Cream tea and enjoy a stroll in local welfare park where we are located...."
