Eggleston church floor inscription

  • Description

The old church of Eggleston is now in ruins and forms part of Eggleston Hall Gardens. This old inscription in the floor of the church says:- TWO CHRISTIANS UNDER THIS ARE LAYD THE ONE STILL LIVES THE OTHERS DEAD CHRISTIAN SANDERSON BORN 25 JAN 1678 DIED THE 21 OF ___ 1685 Not clear what this means but possibly the dead one refers to the body and the living one to the soul.
