    Following closure of the standard gauge branch in 1976, the route was reclaimed for a narrow gauge railway, Relaying started from the Alston end, Soon to be extended from Lintley to Slaggyford, the South Tynedale Railway will then have eight and half miles of new track to build to link up with the national railway network at Haltwhistle
