The photograph has been taken after the demolition of the Douglas Hotel which stood at the junction of Neville Street and Grainger Street. The George Stephenson monument is in the foreground with Grainger Street behind and Neville Street to the left. The County Hotel is on the corner of Grainger Street and Neville Street opposite the remains of the Douglas Hotel. St Mary's Cathedral is in the background to the left and Barclays Bank on the corner of Grainger Street and Westgate Road is to the right.
