    Type : Photograph Medium : Print-black-and-white Description : A view of Clayton Street Newcastle upon Tyne taken c.1930. It is a busy street scene with pedestrians trams and cars. There has been a fire in one of the buildings on the right-hand side of Clayton Street. A fire engine is parked on the road and two firemen are sorting out equipment nearby. Another three firemen are talking to a fire officer in front of the building. A policeman is standing in front of a crowd which has gathered to the side of the building. On the left-hand side of Clayton Street there are buildings such as 'Boots the Chemists' and the 'Clayton Arms'. A clock is projecting from one of the buildings with the words 'Journal' running around the top.
