The Close

  • Description

    The Close, Newcastle. To the right, 28-30, is medieval in origin but with 18th centruy facade with 19th century ground floor alterations. To the left, no 32, The Cooperage, is timber-farmed and built from 1543 to the 17th century on the remains of an earlier stone house. Behind is Turnbull's Warehouse, originally a print works, designed by F.W Rich and completed in 1888 and extended in 1896-8.
