                                Description"Bank, 1901/03 by H. Barnes and Coates (Hartlepool), for York City and County Banking Co. Ltd. Polished Aberdeen granite ground floor; sandstone ashlar upper floors; brick stacks and copper lantern on flat asphalt roof. Occupies corner site with entrance to Exchange Square. Edwardian Baroque. 3 storeys and attic. 7-bay entrance front, slightly-recessed right end and chamfered left angle bays. 3 steps up to central recessed renewed double doors,and blind fanlight, in keyed rusticated surround.....INTERIOR: banking hall has mosaic floors; wood dado panelling with carved cornice; Adam-style plaster frieze with garlands and drops; and geometric-patterned ceiling with fruit-and-flower ribs, by W. & S. Wheater (Leeds)....."
