Statue of Queen Victoria in front of the Royal Victoria Infirmary Administration Block
-
Description
"In her youth. The inscriptions on the plinth read "VICTORIA OF ENGLAND [whatever happened to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland?]/1837-1901/; UNVEILED BY KING EDWARD VII/JULY 11, 1906/; and THE GIFT OF SIR RILEY LORD/1906". There is barely a passing resemblance to the coronation portrait by George Hayter https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Queen_Victoria#/media/File:Dronning_victoria.jpg given in the Wiki entry https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Queen_Victoria . The statue is Grade II* listed (no, I don't know why, either)." Photo by Mike Quinn, 2018. -
