Moss-covered cup and ring marked rock, Lemmington Wood
-
Description
"Hidden in the depths of the wood, the rock has both a cup and ring carved motif (on the top of the rock, to the left) which is thought to date from the Bronze Age, and runes (facing), characters from an Anglo-Saxon script of the 1st or 2nd century AD http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Runes The combination makes it almost unique in Britain. There is a description of the panel here http://rockart.ncl.ac.uk/panel_detail.asp?pi=374" Photo by Andrew Curtis, 2011. -
