The colliery was purchased from Bell Brothers by Dorman Long in 1923. The coal seams in operation were the Brockwell, Busty, Hutton, and Low Main, with manpower working the colliery numbering 659 in 1923. There were three shafts. The No.1 shaft reached the Hutton seam at 37 fathoms...."
