Havannah Mine, Hazlerigg

  • Description

This drift mine was located at Hazlerigg, not far from Newcastle Airport. The odd name was taken from the nearby Havannah Farm.It was a highly mechanised and productive colliery, closing in 1976. This picture shows the baths and the fan house. The baths building is still standing.
