Text Appearing Before Image: rly Phillips had been misled (see p. 18) as to thedirection taken by the waggon-way from the Whitley andMonkseaton collieries, which, instead of proceeding by way ofMarden and then east along the south side of Marden Burn, randirect from the above collieries to Cullercoats Haven. Aftercrossing Marden Burn, nearly at right angles, it entered the mainstreet of Cullercoats, going along the west side of this streetuntil it reached the bank top near where the fishermens look-outhouse now stands as stated by Mr. Maberly Phillips. I have pointed out the positions of the Smugglers Cave andthe Quakers burial ground where shown on Mr. Bells plan, andhave indicated where those modern structures, the Whitley Con-valescent Home, and the Cullercoats Wireless Telegraph Stationare situated.
