Peppercorn Pacific at Tweedmouth on a Rail Tour, 1961

  • Description

"View westward from the Up platform of the ECML; the train when it leaves will cross over to proceed to Newcastle and Leeds. This was the RCTS 'Border Rail Tour' from Leeds (City) and back: via the Settle & Carlisle Line, the Waverley Route to Hawick (reverse), back to St Boswells, then via Roxburgh to Jedburgh (reverse), back to Roxburgh, then Kelso and Coldstream to Tweedmouth, where we reversed once again, to return to Leeds, behind A1 No. 60143 'Sir Walter Scott' (built 2/49, withdrawn 5/64) up the ECML via Newcastle, Northallerton, Ripon and Harrogate. It was a memorable Tour!" Photo by Ben Brooksbank, 1961.
