Description
As its name implies, Bassenthwaite Lake Station was indeed located right by the shores of Bassenthwaite Lake, in what was one of the most picturesque locations on the Cockermouth, Keswick & Penrith Railway. The station was opened in 1865 and closed just over a century later in 1966. The stationmaster’s house remains inhabited or inhabitable, while beyond it the trees close in around the remains of other buildings including the waiting room, ticket office and two signalmen’s cottages.
