Peter Nicholson (1765 - 1844)


Architect, mathematician, engineer and author.

  • Born in 1765 in Prestonkirk, East Lothian
  • Worked as an architect in Glasgow from 1800
  • Became Surveyor to the county of Cumberland in 1808, based in Carlisle
  • Established a school in Oxford Street, London
  • Moved to Morpeth, Northumberland, in 1829
  • Moved to live in Carliol Street, Newcastle upon Tyne, and elected President of the Newcastle Society for the Promotion of the Fine Arts in 1836.
  • Returned to live in Carlisle in 1841
