Peasmeadows
Peasmeadows is a hamlet situated by the River East Allen. It is located off the B6295 road, about 1 mile north-west of Allenheads and 5½ miles south of Allendale Town. The 1860 Northumberland Farm Index (Northumberland Archives) lists Peasmeadows under High Forest township in the ancient parish of Allendale. Whellan's 1855 directory of Northumberland lists Joseph Milburn as mason and quarry master at Peasmeadows.[1] Peasmeadows Cottage was originally a bastle house, of late 16th or early 17th century, which was remodelled in the 19th century. This is a Grade II listed building on the National Heritage List for England. Peasmeadows House dates from the early 19th century, and is also a Grade II listed building. Today, Peasmeadows is part of Allendale Civil Parish.
