Old Windmill, Lanthorn Cottage, Acomb


Old Windmill Forming Part of Lanthorn Cottage in Acomb, Northumberland. The windmill tower is dated 1720 with initials R R (Richard Ridley) on it's lintel. The windmill was altered to a house in the late 18th or early 19th century. An attached cottage was added in c.1977. The windmill operated in the 18th century in conjunction with the nearby watermill on Birkley Burn (Acomb Mill). The windmill is shown on O.S. maps as 'The Lantern'. The Old Windmil is Grade II listed on the National Heritage List for England.
