Old Park, County Durham
Old Park Hall Farm is located about 1½ miles west of Spennymoor and 3½ miles north of Bishop Auckland. The farmhouse here is by the site of a former medieval manor house, and was rebuilt in 1901 incorporating some medieval fabric, and is a Grade II listed building on the National Heritage List for England. The 18th century garden and yard walls are separately Grade II listed. To the north of the farm is the hamlet of Old Park Terrace. Historically, Old Park was a township in the ancient parish of Bishop Auckland. Following the Poor Law Amendment Act, Old Park became a Civil Parish in 1866. This was abolished in 1937, when Old Park became part of Spennymoor Civil Parish.
OLD-PARK, a township, in the parish of St. Andrew Auckland, union of Auckland, S. E. division of Darlington ward, S. division of the county of Durham, 3¾ miles (N.E. by N.) from Bishop-Auckland; containing 30 inhabitants. It comprises by computation 420 acres: the road from St. Andrew Auckland to Durham passes eastward of the hamlet. The mansion house was built in its present form by Dr. Warton assisted by the advice of Gray, the poet, with whom he lived upon terms of the most intimate friendship.
