No. 2, Crown Street

No. 2, Crown Street in Cockermouth is part of the Trout Hotel. It was originally a separate house, built in the late 18th century, known as Hartford House.  Fearon Fallows, Astronomer Royal, was born here in 1788.[1] In 1902, the building became Cockermouth Nursing Home, after Harford House was donated to the town by Thomas Williamson, a retired shipbuilder.[2] In 1989, change of use was granted for use of the 1st floor residential and ground floor as office. Hartford House hosted Derwent Gallery and the William Creighton Mineral-Fossil Museum. In 2002, use of the building changed to offices, with hotel staff accommodation above. No. 2 Crown Street is Grade II listed on the National Heritage List for England.
