Monkseaton Methodist Church
Monkseaton Methodist Church is located on Front Street in Monkseaton. The building was originally a byre, stable and turnip house, forming part of Monkseaton Village Farm. The stone building dates back to at least the 18th century. In 1899, the building was purchased by Colonel T.W. Elliott who converted it into a Anglican chapel. The Wesleyan Methodists moved here from Chapel Lane in 1913. For many years it was known as 'The Gun Chapel' as two cannons from Scarborough Castle stood outside, but in 1942 they were removed and melted down to reuse the metal during the Second World War.[1] The church is included on the List of Buildings, Parks and Gardens of Special Local Architectural or Historic Interest ('Local List') for North Tyneside. As well as being a place of worship, the church was used as a vaccination centre during the COVID pandemic.
