Middleham Castle
Middleham Castle was the main house of the Bishops of Durham from the Norman Conquest (1066) to the end of the 14th century. It was a fortified manor house, located on high ground to the south-east of Bishop Middleham.[1] There are few remains of the castle today; primarily earthwork remains; banks and ditches and some low stone walls.[2] This site of the castle is a Scheduled Ancient Monument.
Not to be confused with Middleham Castle in Middleham in Wensleydale, Yorkshire.
