Middle Golden Pot

The Middle Golden Pot is the socket stone of a medieval wayside cross, situated in an elevated position on the western edge of Dere Street, the Roman road between Corbridge and Newstead in Scotland. It is located close to where Cottonshope Road meets Dere Street, about 9½ miles north-west of Otterburn. It dates from the 14th century. The Middle Golden Pot is a Scheduled Monument, listed in the National Heritage List for England. It is in the MOD training area. Also on Dere Street, Outer Golden Pot is located to the north, and a third Golden Pot was located to the south. The origin of the name "Golden Pot" is unclear; it may stem from the shape of the socket stone, which can resemble a pot when filled with rainwater, and it's colour, when wet.
