Loaning Head


Loaning Head is a farm in Northumberland, located by the B6341 (the old Great North Road), near its junction with Smiley Lane. It is close to Broomhouse, and just over 1 mile north of Alnwick and about 1½ mile north-west of the village of Denwick. Loaning Head is listed in the Northumberland Farms Index for 1860, under the township of Abbey Lands, in the ancient parish of Alnwick. Today, Loaning Head is part of Denwick Civil Parish. Loaning Head Cottage hosts Hobberlaw Plants - a plant nursery established in 2010. Crop marks to the north of Loaning Head suggest earlier settlent here.[1] There is a Second World War pillbox locatted between Loaning Head and Broomhouse.[2]
