Hetton Downs

Hetton Downs is an area of Hetton-le-Hole in Sunderland (historically County Durham). It is also a Local Government Ward. Historically, Downs Pit (also known as Eppleton Colliery), established in 1833, was located to the east of the settlment, off Downs Pit Lane by Great Eppleton farm. The settlement of Hutton Downs expanded when colliery housing was built here between 1861-1898, including Jane Street, William Street, Henry Street and Lindsay Street.
