Hebblethwaite Hall

Hebblethwaite Hall is a hamlet and farm, located in Cautley, and about 2 miles north-east of Sedbergh. Hebblethwaite Hall Drive, off Cautley Road (A683), is about 1km long, leading to the hall. The Mannor of Hebblethwaite is documented in the will of Henry Hebblethwaitein 1587.[1] The Hall here dates from 16th century and is a Grade II listed building on the National Heritage List for England. Hebblethwaite Cottage and attached barn to the west, date from the 18th century and is also Grade II listed. Today there are self-catering holiday cottages here, as well as the working farm. Hebblethwaite Mill was built in 1793, originally as a carding mill, later a bobbin mill. The mill was abandoned in the 1890s; the remains of the mill can still be seen in Hebblethwaite Hall Woods, by Hebblethwaite Hall Gill. Hebblethwaite Hall Wood, owned and managed by the Woodland Trust, since 1990, has five hectares of ancient semi-natural woodland, situated along the northern side of Hebblethwaite Hall Gill.
