Hazlerigg Colliery (1892 - 1964)


Hazlerigg Colliery opened in 1892 under the ownership of the Burradon & Coxlodge Coal Co. By 1902 there were 1,010 prople employed at the colliery (826 working below ground and 184 working on the surface). From 1929 the colliery was recorded as being owned by the Hazlerigg & Burradon Coal Co., until nationalisation in 1947, when it came under control of the National Coal Board (NCB). Hazlerigg Colliery closed on the 25th of April 1964.[1]
