Halton Red House
Halton Red House is a farm in Northumberland, located about 2½ miles NNE of Corbridge. It is situated by the B6318 Military Road, which overlays the couse of Hadrian's Wall here. The buried remains of Turret 21b and probably Milecastle 21 of Hadrian's Wall are located under the modern road close to Halton Red House farm. The farmhouse and attached cottage date from the late 18th and early 19th century. The cottage is noted as being built largely with Roman Stone.[1] The farmhouse and cottage are Grade II listed on the National Heritage List for England. Historically, Red House was part of the township of Halton, in the ancient parish of Corbridge. Whellan's 1855 directory of Northumberland lists Anthony and Mary Hutchinson as farmers at Halton Red House, at that time.[2] Today, Halton Red House is part of Whittingham Civil Parish. It provides bed and breakfast accommodation.
