Hadrian Primary School

Hadrian Primary School is located on Baring Street, South Shields. It is a community school, with about 250 students aged 3 to 11. The school is situated next to the site of the Arbeia Roman Fort, which dates back to the time of Emperor Hadrian, from whom the school takes its name. The school have engaged with cultural and heritage activities; including a project 'Protecting the Tyne', supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund, involving Year 6 children.[1] They researched the local impact of the First World War, including the loss of a pilot cutter (a manoeuvrable ship who's crew helps other ships navigate through dangerous or congested waters, such as harbours or river mouths).
