Former School and Chequers Hotel, Dalton-in-Furness

A free school in Dalton-in-Furness was founded in 1622. In the 19th century the school was refinanced and rebuilt by local entrepreneurs, re-opening as a church school, linked with St Mary's, on Goose Green in 1862 (it was commonly known as 'The Green School').[1] The school here was closed in 1969, when it was replaced by the new St Mary’s Church of England Primary School building on Coronation Drive. After a period of disuse, the old school building was converted into Chequers Hotel.[2] The hotel closed in 2019 and the building was later converted into The Cedars residential apartments and is now Chequers Lodge self-catering apartments.
