Former Derwentside Area Council Offices

The former Derwentside Area Council Offices building is located on Front Street in Stanley. The building is dated 1910 (date above the entrance) and was designed by J.W. Wilson of Sutton Coldfield. The building is Grade II listed on the National Heritage List for England.

Derwentside District Council was formed in 1974, through the merger of Stanley Urban District (created in 1894), Consett Urban District and Lanchester Rural District. Derwentside District Council's headquarters were in Medomsley Road, Consett. Derwentside District Council was abolished in 2009 when Durham County Council (formed in 1889) became a unitary authority, taking on the district level functions.

Does anyone know the history of the building? was it originally used by Stanley Urban District? Was it used by DCC after 2009?
