Enclosure near Damhead Wood, Whickham



Scheduled Monument area - based on Historic England data (Open Government Licence).

The remains of a rectilinear, double-ditched, enclosure are situated near Damhead Wood, to the east of the River Derwent - located between Whickham and Winlaton Mill. The site has archaeological significance and is thought to date to the Roman period (43–410 AD)[1]. The site is a Scheduled Monument (legally protected).
