Emperor's Lodges (South entrance to Lowther Castle)

The Emperor’s  Lodges are located on Emperor’s Drive, by the A6, at Thrimby and about 1½ miles south of Lowther, in Cumbria. They are a pair of entrance lodges at the former south entrance to Lowther Castle, with linking forecourt walls, railings and gate piers. They were built in 1895 (dated on porch parapet), for the Earl of Lonsdale, for the visit of the German Emperor, whose arms and a commemorative plaque appear on entrance front of East Lodge. The buildings are Grade II listed on the National Heritage List for England.
