Emerson Chambers

Emerson Chambers was built in 1903 on Blackett Street in Newcastle. It was designed by Simpson, Lawson and Rayne - built as a high-end restaurant, complete with resident orchestra, for Robert Emerson Jnr.; and also contained a number of shops and offices. The clock on the roof of the building was installed by William Potts in 1904, and mechanised in 1965. Emmerson Chambers is Grade II* listed on the National Heritage List for England (the clock is separately listed). Emmerson Chambers is located close to the Monument and Eldon Square; it currently hosts Waterstone's bookshop.
