Drinking Fountain, Queen's Square

There is an old stone drinking fountain and water trough in the wall of the churchyard, on the east side of Queens Square, in Kirkby Lonsdale. It was built in 1868 to commemorate the restoration of St Mary's Church. The substantial restoration, by E. G. Paley, began in 1866. It involved raising the roof, giving the outer north aisle a separate roof, reseating the church, re-flooring the chancel, adding a south porch and installing a screen and a font.
Erected by public subscription gratefully to record the restoration of the parish church Kirkby Lonsdale by Lord Kenlis A.D. 1868
