Crook Conservation Area
The conservation area covers part of the urban centre of Crook in County Durham, which has preserved its original village charm, despite the rapid growth and industrialisation of the town in the 19th and 20th centuries. The Village Green includes the parish church and Crook beck. The Architectural backdrop to the area is defined by the "ambitious" Roman Catholic Church on the slopes of Dowfold Hill, framed by an undeveloped hillside. The mid-19th-century terraced houses at Church Hill and the eastern Green maintain the area's original village feel. The conservation area includes the commercial area along Hope Street.
Crook Conservation Area was designated on the 1st January, 1975.
