Church of All Saints, Muggleswick
A church was first built here in 1259 after the priors of Durham had a retreat grange built at Muddleswick under Prior Hugh of Darlington. The present church dates from c.1728 [1,2] with substantial rebuilding in the 19th Century (Kelly's Directory states 'rebuilt in 1869')[3]. There are a group of 17th century tombs in the churchyard which are Grade II listed.[4] The Mayer Tomb, also Grade II listed, was made by the noted sculptor John Graham Lough. In 1933 a Lych Gate was built. Today, All Saints is one of eight churches in The Moorland Group of Churches.
