Centre Square
"Centre Square is Middlesbrough’s premier outdoor events space, and plays host to some of the town's most popular events, including the Christmas Lights Switch On, Middlesbrough Mela, and Town Meal. Surrounding Central Library and mima, Centre Square covers an area of 19,000 square metres and includes a 120-jet water feature, steel walkways and large areas of lawn. It was designed by Erick van Egeraat Associated Architects, along with landscape architects West 8." (Middlesbrough Council) Centre Square was opened in October 2006, replacing the former Victoria Gardens and incorporating Victoria Square to create a new open public space.
