Bus Shelter (South)
This distinctive bus shelter in Stannington, is by Laurence Whistler, and dated 1937 inscribed in Roman numerals on the lintel. It stands on the old Great North Road, to the south of the junction with Church Road. The shelter is made of wood on a squared stone plinth, with a Lakeland slate roof. It is one of a pair presented to the village by Lord Ridley in commemoration of the coronation of King George VI. The shelter is Grade II listed on the National Heritage List for England.
